Hawks, Marco Belinelli reportedly finalizing contract buyout
The Hawks and shooting guard Marco Belinelli are nearing a contract buyout, according to ESPN.com.
Belinelli, 31, has played for eight different teams during his 11-year NBA career. Known as a sharpshooter, he’s averaging 11.4 points and 2.0 assists per game this season.
Once Belinelli and the Hawks complete the buyout, he will be free to sign with another team. The report states that a number of contending teams are interested in signing Belinelli.
More significant for the direction of the team, though, will be the front office’s decision on coach Jeff Hornacek, who was hired by Phil Jackson and has taken some criticism for rotation decisions and late-game management this year. This consensus is that Hornacek won’t get fired this year.
But should the Knicks crash and burn without Porzingis, especially if they choose to emphasize time for younger players, Hornacek likely will be out at the end of the season. By the time Porzingis is back on an NBA floor, there’s a strong chance he will be playing for his third coach in four years.
Turns out agents don’t run basketball teams. ESPN’s Chris Haynes and Ohm Youngmisuk reported the two-time All-Star would indeed begin his career in purple and gold as a reserve when the Lakers face the Mavericks on Saturday tonight.
The 5-9 Thomas was a second-team All-NBA choice after averaging a career-high 28.9 points per game as a member of the Celtics last season. He was shipped off to Cleveland in exchange for Kyrie Irving in a deal that sent the Cavaliers Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Nets’ 2018 first-round pick.
Thomas played just 15 games with Cleveland, averaging 14.7 points and 4.5 assists. He was severely limited by a hip injury, the same one that forced him out of last year’s playoffs.
Walton will be tasked with meshing Thomas into a lineup that also includes rookie Cheap Barcelona Jerseys Lonzo Ball (10.2 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 7.1 apg), who hasn’t played since mid-January with a Cheap Blue Jays Jerseys sprained MCL, and shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (13.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg).
